Trial question

1)      What is your assessment of Marcus Garvey? Was he a charlatan, or an important civil rights leader?

  1. Here's an interesting little snippet of background info - seems like he had thought the move to Africa through slightly - trying to get land in Liberia for african americans to return to.

As far as charlatan v. important civil rights leader. He was certainly not pushing for the kind of civil harmony we support today - but we're still talking about him, 80 years on. He's a good example for the (arguably justified) will of some african americans to live without any white interference
whatsoever... pretty understandable given the political and social climate at the time.
